WBS (Wohnberechtigungsschein) is a certificate of housing right. You can get the certificate at the housing office in the city or municipality. The certificate is valid for one year and the price is around €10 to a maximum of €30 depending on where you live.
These are the same as all other apartments, only with a lower protected rent. They are rented by agencies and private individuals. It will be marked (Wbs Erforderlich) in the advertisement.
People or families with lower incomes. These are most often recipients of Hartz IV benefits, housing benefits, single parents and the disabled.
On average, WBS apartments are 20% to 30% cheaper than the market rental price.

Submit a request for an apartment to agencies that rent apartments and wait in line. In the meantime, you can search for private apartments that receive WBS. Demand is much higher than supply. You have to be patient.
