With the beginning of 2023, there is good news about the increase of the child benefit (Kindergeld) and the child allowance. According to the new calculation, from the beginning of 2023, child allowance (Kindergeld) and child allowance (Kinderzuschlag) together can amount to €500 per month. They are paid out on the same day, but separately as two different measures, depending on who is entitled to child benefit.
The amount of child benefit has been increased to a fixed monthly rate of EUR 250 per child from January 2023. There are no longer different amounts based on the number of children receiving child benefit. Persons who have already submitted an application or received child benefit are not required to submit a new application. The Family Benefit Office (Familienkasse) will send you the larger payment immediately.
From January 2023, eligible families can receive child benefit (Kinderzuschlag) in the amount of up to 250 euros per child. Child benefit is automatically adjusted to the increase and paid.
Families with low or middle incomes are likely to qualify for child benefit. The same families are probably also entitled to housing benefit (Wohngeld). The amount will vary depending on the family’s living situation. You can directly check online whether your family is eligible for child benefit.
Families who receive child allowance are additionally entitled to help from the educational package (costs of school materials). Current aid amounts to slightly more than €150 per child, which is paid in two installments. The first installment is paid around August in the amount of around €100, and the second installment of €50 in early February.
