Until October 2022, sick leave was received from the doctor in three copies: one for personal records, one for the employer and one for health insurance.
Entering the year 2023, the sick leave procedure has been completely digitized. Medical offices are obliged to automatically send a digital sick certificate of incapacity for work (Arbeitsunfähigkeitsbescheinigung abbreviated AU) to the respective health insurance of the sick employee.
The saving is that no more time is wasted sending the sick certificate to the insurance company and that postal costs are eliminated.
Complete digitization is taking place. In case of sick leave, i.e. if the doctor sends you on sick leave, it is enough to report the sick leave to the employer by phone.
The employer should digitally take over the sick leave from the insurance company where the worker is and record it in the work record.
The only problem the employer may have is how to implement the entire process. We have no doubt that this will speed up and facilitate the process, both for employees and employers.
